The Premier League Blockbuster Index
Which Premier League teams are the most entertaining to watch? Using Opta match data, we've scored every club on the diversity of their playing style and how much fun their matches are for neutrals, across every season since 2015/16.
Data correct as of
Variety (X axis)
How many different ways does this team play? Measures creative passing, pressing intensity, squad rotation, shot placement, and scorer spread. Teams that do a bit of everything score higher than one-trick ponies. Computed as a geometric mean, so being weak in any dimension is costly.
Fun for Neutrals (Y axis)
How entertaining are this team's matches for a neutral viewer? Captures goal volume, comebacks, late drama, possession swings, finishing quality, and open play goals. The stuff that makes you glad you tuned in.

Methodology
- While this is based on real match data and genuine statistical methods, this is a fundamentally unserious analysis. Please do not @ us.
- Data from Opta match events, stats, xG, and xGOT across 10 seasons of Premier League football.
- Each sub-metric is normalised across the 20 teams in that season (0 = lowest, 1 = highest).
- Variety uses a weighted geometric mean, rewarding breadth (being weak in any dimension is costly). Fun uses a weighted arithmetic mean (peaks are additive).
- Dashed crosshairs show the median values, dividing teams into four quadrants.
